While the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds in February 2025 was rocky because all the performance issues on PC, there’s another controversy that also tarnished the game’s reputation.

Capcom decided to charge players who wanted to change their avatar’s appearance in the game. Minor adjustments (hairstyle, hair color, makeup, etc.) are free, but a complete makeover requires a coupon that can be purchased with real money. The first one is free, but a pack of three sells for €6.99.

This highly controversial practice will be discontinued by Capcom next year with the release of the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion. An update will be rolled out alongside the DLC to remove the use of coupons for all players.

Finally, Monster Hunter Wilds will also be released on Switch 2 this December 4. Here’s a sneak peek at some gameplay in handheld mode for this version.
