Bad news just keep coming for Build A Rocket Boy. Since the chaotic launch of MindsEye in June 2025, the studio founded by Leslie Benzies has been on a downward spiral. The toxic internal atmosphere, suspicions of a conspiracy, and numerous waves of layoffs have only made matters worse.

This week, the studio appears to have carried out another round of layoffs. On LinkedIn, Dan Hawkins, a now-former HR employee at the company, announced his departure by posting a message expressing concern about the future of Build A Rocket Boy.

"It is with a very heavy heart that I’m raising my green flag along with the rest of my colleagues at Build a Rocket Boy. I’m now looking for a new adventure […]

I’ll be staying with Build A Rocket Boy until the very end to help wrap up various tasks within the HR department. But I’ll be open to any opportunities, both within and outside the video game industry to join fast-growing companies."

It appears many employees have been laid off in recent days. Does this mean the studio is headed for closure? It’s still too early to say. In another post on LinkedIn, developer Michaela Emslie simply stated that she had been laid off after four years with the company.
