Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem is an horror game that came out for the GameCube back in 2002 and was really well-received at the time. On Metacritic, the game has an average score of 92% from critics and an 8.6 out of 10 from players.

This game by Silicon Knights got a rather original concept. When the player’s sanity bar dropped, the character could experience hallucinations manifested through various on-screen effects. These could range from a simple camera tilt or static noise to visions of the hero’s death or a fake message claiming the save file had been deleted.

Despite selling fewer than half a million copies, Eternal Darkness still has a passionate fan base. Stephen Kick, CEO of Nightdive Studios, is one of them. He responded to an user on X who wanted to know if the studio, which specializes in remasters, might one day bring back this incredible survival horror game.

Kick didn’t dodge the question and even hinted that such a project might one day come to fruition.
