The Miami-Dade sheriff has rejected a GTA VI marketing campaign due to the game's violence
Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive had planned to go all out for the GTA VI marketing campaign. The companies were in talks with the City of Miami to install billboards and other promotional items throughout the city that served as the inspiration for Vice City.
However, this project was rejected by Rosie Cordero-Stutz, the sheriff of Miami-Dade County. No billboards, no “Welcome to Vice City” posters, and no decorations inside Miami’s Metromover will ultimately be installed.
Cordero-Stutz says she refuses to promote a video game based on criminal activities.
"Grand Theft Auto is a video game franchise built around criminal activity.
Its fictional world includes murder, robbery, drug trafficking, carjacking, violence against law enforcement, and other conduct that the men and women of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office work every single day to prevent."
Juan Carlos Bermudez, the current Miami-Dade Sheriff and a potential future mayor of the city, expressed a similar view.
"Miami-Dade County has spent decades building a reputation as a world-class destination for tourism, business, investment, and opportunity. We should be promoting the Miami-Dade we have worked so hard to build, not a fictional version of our community defined by crime and violence."
