PlayStation reports sales of 95.3 million PS5 consoles and stable results for the last quarter

It’s PlayStation’s turn to present its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026 (April 1 to June 30, 2026).

Amid a tense climate following the announcement that physical discs will be phased out by January 2028, the Japanese company posted global sales of $5.8 billion, up 0.6% from the same period last year. Sales were "largely stable", though impacted by a decline in hardware sales and third-party game sales.

Since its release in November 2020, the PS5 has sold 95.3 million units worldwide, including 1.6 million during the past quarter (down 36% year-over-year). The company’s operating profit, meanwhile, rose by 37% thanks to tariff refunds in the U.S.

Still on the numbers front, the number of monthly active users reached 125 million, a 2% increase compared to last year. Digital sales account for 82% of total game sales.

Finally, "next-gen console development" and "restructuring costs" had a negative impact on PlayStation’s expenses during the quarter. Sony has also secured the amount of memory needed to meet projected sales for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027.
