SEGA plans to release several adaptations of some of its biggest franchises in the near future. With this in mind, the Japanese publisher has signed a partnership with Netflix.

Variety reports that the first project resulting from this multi-year agreement between the two companies is a comedy film titled Crazy Taxi, written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. The producers of Sonic will also be involved.

In addition, a new animated children’s series based on Sonic is in the works. Also in the pipeline is a feature film based on Stranger Than Heaven, the game from RGG Studio set to release in January 2027. Brandon Riegg, vice president of nonfiction and transmedia programming at Netflix, issued a statement.

"Great games already have what every adaptation is chasing — characters people love, worlds they know by heart, and fandoms that show up. With Crazy Taxi, Sonic and Stranger Than Heaven, we get to work across three completely different eras of Sega’s catalog, celebrating everything fans love, while introducing them to new audiences."
