Blizzard Entertainment’s future already seems set in stone. During BlizzCon 2026, the American company officially announced two projects that won’t be released for several years. Diablo V is expected in spring 2029 and the open-world shooter STARCRAFT in 2030.

These very distant release dates may have surprised players. Johanna Faries, Blizzard’s president, explained this strategy to Bloomberg. The goal was to demonstrate the company’s confidence in its highly ambitious projects.

"We want to demonstrate our confidence in our most ambitious upcoming projects. Blizzard is a company that will release games, and big games at that, on schedule, and we’re mobilizing all our resources to ensure their success. "

It’s worth noting that, like Xbox, Blizzard is expected to be affected by the upcoming 1,600 job cuts within Microsoft’s gaming division. These future layoffs could partly explain this strategic shift. Faries has not commented on this situation but wishes to focus entirely on "Blizzard’s long-term sustainability."
