XBOX is reportedly losing about $150 per console sold
These are some pretty alarming facts reported by Jez Corden, a journalist at Windows Central.
In fact, due to the RAMpocalypse, which is the name given to the global shortage and chaos caused by the lack of RAM, certain components are costing Xbox a lot of money to manufacture its devices. The reporter was told that Xbox is losing about $150 per unit sold and will continue to lose money even after the expected increase in August 2026 at the earliest.
Jez Corden goes even further, stating:
"Now imagine 50% or more of those Xbox Series X|S users bypassed the Xbox ecosystem and went straight to Steam to buy games. The margins would be even worse, without any form of software sales subsidy. Xbox wouldn’t have a business at all."
It’s clear that the global situation regarding RAM, or even broader sectors like semiconductors, is not about to let up on the video game industry.
