In an effort to promote backward compatibility on its consoles, Microsoft may soon offer a feature that allows users to convert physical games to digital format.

The information comes from The Verge, and according to early rumors, this option that is currently in the testing phase will be available on the XBOX Series X and XBOX One. It will not support XBOX and XBOX 360 games on disc. Compatible titles will be playable via the cloud for XBOX Game Pass subscribers. XBOX Play Anywhere compatibility will be supported, allowing users to launch the games on PC.

Finally, multi-disc games will be eligible. It is also noted that "some XBOX One discs may not be compatible depending on how and when the disc was manufactured, and may not have the necessary features for this program.^"
