Ubisoft is being sued by UFC-Que Choisir following the shutdown of The Crew
The consumer association UFC-Que Choisir has decided to sue Ubisoft following the shutdown of the game The Crew, which became unplayable after its servers were shut down. It accuses the publisher of deceptive practices, arguing that players were deprived of a product they believed they had purchased without being informed of a potential "expiration date".
The association also challenges Ubisoft’s terms of service, which state that players are purchasing only a license that can be revoked at any time, rather than a durable good. This lawsuit is part of a broader movement protesting the obsolescence of online games. Ubisoft, for its part, defends its position by citing the cost and limited lifespan of online services.
