The Witcher's multiplayer spin-off Project Sirius faces new layoffs

Project Sirius, a spin-off of The Witcher that combines single-player and multiplayer cooperative gameplay, is facing a new wave of layoffs at CD Projekt Red. According to reports today from Eurogamer and confirmed by the studio, nine developers have been laid off, while nine others have been transferred to other teams.

This reorganization comes as CD Projekt Red implements a new strategic shift regarding the project. Sirius was originally developed by Molasses Flood, which was acquired by the Polish publisher in 2025 to bring the game’s development in-house.

The project had already undergone a major reboot in 2023, which led to the departure of 29 employees. Despite these upheavals, development is said to have recently progressed relatively well, particularly following some changes made in the spring.

CD Projekt had also strengthened the narrative team with the arrival of Kwan Perng, a former writer for Destiny 2, as lead writer. The project had 71 developers as of late February 2026, up from 56 a few months earlier, which means that the studio had further expanded its staff.

These new layoffs therefore do not necessarily mean that Sirius has been canceled, but rather that its production is entering a new phase requiring a different team. For now, CD Projekt has still provided very few details about the game, whose release date and final form remain unknown.
