The difficulty of Souls-like games is not a new topic of debate, and it’s not about to end anytime soon. While some prefer a fixed difficulty level more faithful to the devs’ vision, others are fond of adjustable, or even customizable, difficulty.

Recently, the excellent Lies of P finally introduced adjustable difficulty options through a post-launch update. This is also the path that Mortal Shell 2 intends to take, starting with the game’s launch. A press release on the social network Bluesky provides further details on the matter.

We’ve learned that there’s a whole range of items for you to adjust the difficulty. For example, the Slayer Seal”lowers the overall difficulty, as it restores health and resolve with each kill. But beware of the downside: equipping this item disables achievements, which makes sense.

Conversely, if the Gloombound Flame item is equipped, the game switches to night mode: enemies are generally stronger in this mode. Other items will allow you to alter various gameplay mechanics, such as parrying.

As a reminder, Mortal Shell 2 is set to release on PC, PS5, and XBOX Series X|S on August 20. Pre-orders are already open, and feature a 3-days early access in order to start playing on August 17.
