The upcoming expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been the talk of the town since its announcement this Wednesday. It will release on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC next year. However, we could have had it sooner…

In fact, during a conference call discussing its financial results, CD Projekt RED explained that Songs of the Past was originally scheduled for a 2026 launch. This was revealed by Michał Nowakowski, the company’s co-CEO.

"We had planned to release Songs of the Past this year. However, we decided, together with the development team, that the game would be released in 2027 in order to achieve the best possible result from the consumer’s perspective, which, ultimately, is frankly the only thing that really matters."

CFO Piotr Nielubowicz also gave further details on the matter.

"For several quarters now, we’ve been saying that our catalog includes unannounced projects currently in advanced production. Among them is the expansion developed in collaboration with Fool’s Theory. Our initial plans called for a release of Songs of the Past this year, but we ultimately decided to postpone it until 2027."

Finally, Nowakowski was asked about the scope of this expansion. If we are to believe his comments, it will be closer in scale to Blood and Wine.

"As for the scope of the expansion, I’d say it’s actually a bit closer to Blood and Wine, but that’s very subjective. It really depends on how you play, on your gaming experience. But the point I wanted to make is that we’re developing a truly massive expansion."
