Switch 2 : Nintendo appears to be working on VRR in docked mode

For now, only the Switch 2’s screen in handheld mode is compatible with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). The console does not support this feature when docked and connected to external displays.

When the console was announced in 2025, the Japanese manufacturer had initially stated that VRR would be available on TVs before backtracking. However, this does not mean that the idea of adding this compatibility has been abandoned.

Nintendo has posted a job listing for a senior display engineer. Applicants are required to have « knowledge of display technologies such as HDR and VRR ». This could therefore indicate that this person will be involved in the development of Variable Refresh Rate in docked mode.
