Square Enix denies rumors of privatization
The Japanese magazine Sentaku sparked the controversy in the last few hours. In a report, it claimed that Square Enix was considering going private. These rumors, described as "credible" by the publication, even caused the company’s stock price to rise.
Ultimately, Square Enix stepped in to deny Sentaku’s report. These speculations are reportedly completely unfounded, as the publisher has no intention whatsoever of delisting from the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The Japanese company will therefore not follow the same path as Electronic Arts, which went private after its $55 billion acquisition.
For now, there is no indication that Square Enix could be acquired. Following this clarification, the company’s stock price fell by nearly 6%.
