PSSR 3.0 could work wonders on the portable PS6
We keep getting more and more rumors regarding the PlayStation 6. The website GameGPU has shared a possible leak concerning Project Canis, which is Sony’s next-generation handheld console.
First, let’s recall that previous rumors suggested a device featuring a custom AMD Canis processor manufactured on a 3-nanometer process, with six Zen 6 cores and 24 GB of shared LPDDR5X RAM. The device’s power consumption is reportedly limited to between 15 W and 25 W. The graphics unit would feature 16 compute units based on the new RDNA 5 architecture. In handheld mode, the processor will run at 1.2 GHz with a graphics performance of 4.91 TFLOPS. When docked, the console is expected to reach 1.65 GHz and 6.75 TFLOPS.
Fortunately, we also have some new information. It seems the internal resolution of this portable PS6 would be just 540p, upscaled to 1080p. This will likely be made possible by PSSR 3.0, whose effective computing power will range from 10 to 11 TFLOPS in portable mode and 14 TFLOPS in docked mode. In the past, insider Kepler_L2 even claimed that PSSR 3.0 could outperform DLSS 4.5 to deliver superior performance in ray tracing and path tracing.
Finally, the PS6 is reportedly scheduled for release in late 2027. Rumors suggest a possible delay until early 2028.
