Koei Tecmo wants to avoid AAA-level spending and plans lots of releases

Publisher Koei Tecmo has enjoyed a string of successes with titles such as Dynasty Warriors: Origins and Nioh 3. It also collaborated on the creation of Pokémon Pokopia. Today, we’ve received news that is as surprising as it is welcome.

Koei Tecmo has outlined its strategy for the fiscal year ending in March 2027, with the goal of becoming one of the ten most profitable video game companies by 2035. To achieve this, the publisher aims to avoid relying solely on a few AAA blockbusters and maintain a steady pace of releases through a mix of major productions and mid-range games.

The company has already expanded its workforce from approximately 2,500 to over 3,000 employees in two years and is now aiming for 5,000 employees in the long term. It is also continuing to invest in training, salaries, and infrastructure to attract and retain developers.

Koei Tecmo believes that this expansion will enable it to increase the number of projects in development simultaneously while limiting the risks associated with commercial failures. This strategy is intended to support a more consistent release schedule and strengthen its portfolio of licenses over the long term.

In the short and medium term, the company plans to release no fewer than 6 major titles for consoles and PC, 19 mid-range titles, and 2 original games for online and mobile platforms. Currently, they are focused primarily on Attack on Titan 3 and Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, and here is the trailer for this one.
