In the U.S., only 7 games are reported to have sold more than 100,000 physical copies on PlayStation this year
Despite all the complaints online from gamers, physical video game sales are clearly becoming a non-issue for major console manufacturers. A new report by Mat Piscatella, who works for Circana, has highlighted this trend.
On Bluesky, he revealed that only two PlayStation games sold more than 10,000 physical copies in the United States during the week ending July 11, 2026. Furthermore, just seven PlayStation games are reported to have sold more than 100,000 physical copies in the U.S. this year. Here, by the term PlayStation games, we are refering to all titles (exclusives, third-party titles, etc.) released on the brand’s consoles.
Needless to say, given these figures, Sony’s decision to discontinue disc production starting in January 2028 seems quite logical.
