id Software (DOOM) is reported to have lost most, if not all, of its programmers

While id Software survived the purge carried out by Xbox this week, the losses were likely heavy for the studio behind the DOOM franchise. An initial report mentioned 95 layoffs (about 50% of the workforce) at the American company.

Now, Scott Miller, the founder of Apogee/3D Realms, has come forward with troubling news. Apparently, most, if not all, of the programmers working at id Software have been laid off. Despite its strong performance, the id Tech engine may be phased out in favor of the Unreal Engine.

In any case, DOOM is one of the franchises that Bethesda Softworks intends to prioritize in hopes of a brighter future.
