GTA V gets an unofficial Switch version

While some players might have hoped for it, Rockstar Games will likely never bring GTA V to Switch. That’s why some users have decided to take matters into their own hands by creating this port themselves.

The port was based on the PS4, XBOX One, and PC versions of the base game. It runs directly on the Switch’s Tegra X1 processor and under Horizon OS. This version was made possible thanks to the game’s source code, which was leaked in 2023.

On a modified Switch, GTA V runs at a frame rate ranging from 10 to 25 FPS, depending on the scene. An overclocked OLED Switch is even capable of reaching 30 FPS, with occasional dips. The Switch’s 4 GB of onboard RAM obviously presents a significant technical limitation to running the game smoothly. The performance achieved is generally comparable to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
