Fable's director talks about the game's delay due to GTA VI

Like many games, Fable has been delayed due to the behemoth that is GTA VI. The RPG from Playground Games was originally scheduled to be released this fall but was ultimately pushed back to February 23, 2027. This decision makes sense, of course, but it also poses a certain challenge of its own for all the studios involved.

Ralph Fulton, co-founder of Playground Games and game director of Fable, addressed this delay. He also revealed that the game was originally scheduled to launch in October.

"I think the rationale behind moving us out of October, the date that we were in previously, is pretty apparent to everybody.

I feel great about that. I mean, I was really looking forward to shipping this game this year. I didn’t want to have to do another January 1st speech to the team about ‘this is the year we ship Fable,’ which I’m now going to have to do. But the rationale for it is absolutely sound. I’m glad that we’re avoiding that chaotic window."

Finally, Fulton says he isn’t worried about the start of the year, which is now shaping up to be extremely busy.

"People keep saying that to me, but we don’t run scared of other big games. We’re a big game ourselves. We hold ourselves to high standards. I’m happy to go toe-to-toe with a bunch of other games. There’s just one that I’m happy to avoid entirely."
