At least three companies reportedly proposed a new Banjo-Kazooie to Microsoft
The return of the Banjo-Kazooie franchise is a frequent topic in video game news. Unfortunately, no credible signs pointing in that direction have emerged in recent years. However, it appears that several attempts have been made behind the scenes.
In an interview with FRVR, Grant Kirkhope, the composer for the first game, revealed that several companies had approached Microsoft and Rare to propose a Banjo-Kazooie project. Unfortunately, none were able to get the green light. He even specified that Rare turned down all the proposals.
"I do know of like three companies that have actually physically pitches to Microsoft or to Rare about making another Banjo Kazooie game, and I don’t think anyone was successful.
I used to always say there’s zero chance of another Banjo Kazooie game and right now I feel there’s a slight chance. Rare just typically say no to everything. I’ve known people present cartoons to them, all sorts of ideas, and they just say no to everything… I feel like the gatekeepers at Rare, since Craig Duncan just left, it’s a little bit different right now with the two guys that run it now, so maybe they’re a bit more open to discussion."
