Asha Sharma admits that the Xbox Game Pass price hike led to subscriber losses

In a recent interview with The Verge, the current president of Xbox discussed the strategic shift that has taken place in recent months.

First and foremost, the conversation centered on Game Pass. Asha Sharma admitted that the price hike decided by Phil Spencer and his teams last October caused a slowdown in growth while accelerating subscriber churn. However, the price cut implemented in February had the opposite effect.

"ince our price reduction we have seen acquisitions grow and retention improve, which is a good first step."

Sharma also acknowledged that Xbox must now build on this foundation and "learn quickly."

"We will not solve this in one moment or one launch, We will have to outwork the problem in front of us in our path to restore durable growth."

Finally, she said she wants to rebuild a strong XBOX brand by making tough decisions about what to produce and where to invest.

"That is part of what you are starting to see in the shift from Xbox to XBOX. It reflects a decision to be deliberate in how we show up for the players who care most about this brand."
