Everyone (or almost everyone) has an opinion about Sony’s plan to phase out physical discs by January 2028. Many gamers oppose this strategy, and some industry figures have also expressed reservations.

This includes Shawn Layden, who served as president of Sony Interactive Entertainment America and head of Worldwide Studios (now known as PlayStation Studios) until 2019. In an interview with Game (by Pad and Pixel), Layden described the decision as "depressing, but solvable." Layden believes the Japanese company could find a way to license the disc manufacturing process to third parties.

Of course, whether or not this happens will be up to Sony. For now, the company remains unyielding and is simply ignoring user feedback regarding the phase-out of physical games.
