Hironobu Sakaguchi has been impressed by an AI-generated remake of Final Fantasy VI

Before making the transition to 3D on the PlayStation, the Final Fantasy franchise consisted solely of 2D RPGs. Final Fantasy VI was the last entry of that era, and it launched on the Super Nintendo back in 1994.

Many fans would love to see this installment get a remake. As it happens, Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the saga himself, seems to agree. On X, the Japanese director shared a video showing what such a project might look like. Sakaguchi thought it was "awesome".

Unfortunately, the clip in question was created using generative AI. The developer’s enthusiasm has therefore not failed to annoy internet users, who criticize him for encouraging the use of artificial intelligence. Others have responded by encouraging him to create a real remake himself with Square Enix.
