Review: Directive 8020 – mixed reviews for Supermassive Games’ survival horror title

Available starting Tuesday, May 12, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Directive 8020 is the new survival horror game from the creators of Until Dawn and The Quarry. The press has delivered its verdict on this title, which plunges us aboard a colonial ship under attack by an alien threat.

As such, Directive 8020 has a Metacritic average of 72% on PS5 (34 reviews) and 72% on PC (18 reviews). As for the OpenCritic average, it currently stands at 76% with 50 reviews. These scores may, of course, change over time.

Reviewers highlighted the rather interesting story, which features a few surprises. Overall, the pacing of this space epic is well-handled, and the characters are well-developed.

As for the flaws, it’s worth noting graphical issues, the lack of a genuine sense of fear, and relatively basic gameplay.
