Mortal Kombat 1 was a huge success right from its launch in September 2023. The franchise has now been a fixture in the pantheon of fighting games for 33 years. And the story isn’t about to end anytime soon…

In an interview with Collider, Ed Boon, the franchise’s co-creator and director, stated outright that a new Mortal Kombat is in development.

« I’d love to give you a sneak peek. But I think if I gave you a sneak peek and revealed something, I’d probably be in trouble.

But we are, of course, working on another Mortal Kombat game, and we have other projects in the works. So there’s a lot going on, not just on the gaming side, but also across other media. We have a lot of big announcements coming up. »
