Shuhei Yoshida believes releasing PlayStation games on PC at launch is not a good idea
Sony’s strategy regarding the release of its games on PC remains unclear. Recent persistent rumors have suggested that the company will no longer release its single-player titles on PC. This appears to be the case for Saros, which is set to release this April 30 on PS5.
During an interview, Shuhei Yoshida, who led PlayStation Studios until 2019 before leaving the company in 2025, addressed this thorny issue. He expressed support for bringing PS5 games to PC, but only to a certain extent.
"When I was working in game development at PlayStation, for strategic reasons, we weren’t allowed to release our AAA games on other platforms like the PC.
With the constant increase in the scale and investment in game development, it makes sense to me that, with the PS5 generation, they’ve started porting their big-name titles to PC.
Releasing games on PC after a few years has certainly helped recoup the investments in these big-budget titles and allowed the team and the company to reinvest that money into their new games. I see no signs of a change in strategy for this generation, but it will be interesting to see how Sony manages to maintain its investments in big-budget games developed in-house."
Indeed, Yoshida is against the idea of launching a PlayStation title on both console and PC simultaneously.
"If they were releasing new AAA games day one on other platforms, I don’t think that’s a good strategy for platform holder like PlayStation."
