Rumors about a Halo battle royale game have been circulating for a long time. However, this title codenamed Project Tatankawas reportedly canceled along the way. Today, the YouTube channel Rebs Gaming has provided additional details on the matter.

According to the report, this game, which was in development at 343 Industries (now Halo Studios) and Certain Affinity, has evolved into a different genre altogether. It is now reportedly a PvE extraction shooter built on the Unreal Engine, tentatively titled Project Ekur.

Ekur has reportedly been in the works since at least late summer 2023 and is expected to be the next Halo multiplayer game. However, a source claims that the team in charge of the project at Certain Affinity has been reassigned to the upcoming Halo title in the main series. Thus extraction shooter could therefore become a simple multiplayer mode rather than a standalone title.

Some announcements on the project are to be expected during Halo Fest in December.
