To protest the announcement that production of physical discs would end in January 2028, gamers had hoped to launch a PlayStation boycott for one week.

The organizers of this blackout called on users not to turn on their consoles from August 23 to 30 and to log out of their PSN accounts. Canceling PlayStation Plus subscriptions was also an option.

Unfortunately, Mat Piscatella of the Circana research firm said he observed no fluctuation in activity within the PlayStation ecosystem during that period.

"No. There was no significant change at all in player count or engagement in our tracking."

The call for a boycott wasn’t widely shared, and its limited duration would have minimized its actual impact on Sony’s finances in any case. So it was nothing more than a flash in the pan!
