Blizzard announces animated Diablo show coming to Netflix
At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard president Johanna Faries took to the stage to announce that a Diablo animated series is in production with Netflix.
The announcement was light on details, and did not come with a trailer or release window, but Faries did note “great discussions being had” regarding adaptations of Overwatch and Warcraft. Faries also allowed that Blizzard’s other properties could see similar treatments.
“After decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we’re partnering with some creative powerhouses to tell even more stories beyond gaming across new screens,” Blizzard wrote in a press release about the project. “A new animated series set in the world of ‘Diablo’ is in development with Netflix. More details will be shared in the future, but this is only the beginning, with even more taking shape across our universes.”
It feels like the early 2020s gold rush of streaming TV videogame adaptations is cooling down—RIP, Halo show. But we also know what’s worked really well. Netflix’s animated adaptations of Cyberpunk and League of Legends, Edgerunners and Arkane respectively, are huge and much-beloved, with reaches well beyond their respective playerbases.
An animated adaptation from the same outfit behind these other hit gaming adaptations strikes me as a slam dunk. We’ll have to wait and see if the goliath partnership is able to land the plane.
