Marvel's Wolverine Review: the next big PS5 exclusive gets disappointing scores
Marvel’s Wolverine, likely the PS5’s biggest exclusive in 2026, will be available on September 15, 2026. Ahead of its release, the game from Insomniac Games has been reviewed by the gaming press. So it’s time to take a look at the first scores awarded by reviewers.
On Metacritic, Marvel’s Wolverine currently has an average score of 77% based on 87 reviews. The OpenCritic score, meanwhile, stands at 80% with 39 reviews. This is a far cry from the 90% scored by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or the 87% earned by the original Marvel’s Spider-Man. The spin-off Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales also fared better, with an 85% score.
Reviews of the game highlight its stunning graphics, intense combat, and well-paced playtime of about 15 hours. The voice acting is also very well done, and the relationships between the characters are portrayed quite effectively on screen.
Among the flaws, we can point to open levels that are sometimes confusing, relatively repetitive gameplay, an overabundance of QTEs, and boss battles that lack any real surprises. The story, meanwhile, is well-done but rather conventional.
