In an interview in 2024, Matthew Karch, CEO of Saber Interactive, revealed that a multiplayer Metro game was in development. The game was being developed by the Argentine studio Nimble Giant Entertainment, which was later renamed Saber LATAM.

This week, an article published by the website PressOver indicates that the future of this online title is uncertain. Indeed, due to management shakeups and layoffs, the project has been taken away from Saber LATAM. Production reportedly began about six years ago, with a team that grew to around 100 people. The report adds that the developers reportedly failed to successfully blend the traditional Metro experience with a multiplayer formula.

As a result, it is currently impossible to know whether Saber Interactive intends to entrust the game to another studio. It could also be canceled entirely. Saber LATAM, for its part, has laid off 25 employees and closed its offices in Peru and Uruguay.

As a reminder, Metro 2039, the upcoming single-player installment by 4A Games, is set to release on February 4, 2027.
