A leading authority on all things related to Steam and its games, the SteamDB website has just changed hands.

Founded in 2013 and run by xPaw (on X), SteamDB was looking for a buyer earlier this year. This was due to an overwhelming workload following the departure of its co-founder, Marlamin, several years ago. Nexus Mods has now taken over the site with the goal of providing the necessary resources, stability, and long-term development capabilities.

Nexus Mods will use SteamDB to link game update information to modding tools that may be affected by them. This will make mod creation even more reliable. The stated goal is to explore "how a mod manager could better understand which version of the game you’re running, whether mods you’re installing were built for it, and whether an incoming game update is likely to cause issues."

The new owners do not wish to rush the process or turn SteamDB into a modding site. The site will retain its name, identity, and brand. No changes are expected in the short term. The modifications will mainly take place behind the scenes, and the transition will be seamless. Everything remains free for now, and the browser extension will continue to be supported.
