More than nine years after its release, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has received a major update. This free patch introduces new features exclusively for the Switch 2.

Now, up to eight players can gather around a single console to play multiplayer via split-screen mode. Additionally, a Switch 2-compatible USB camera allows players to use CameraPlay to see each other’s faces during local races. This feature is also available online via GameChat.

It’s also worth noting that the resolution of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been increased on Switch 2, and loading times have been reduced. The base speed of the karts has been increased (equivalent to one coin), and the Boo’s behavior has been modeled after that in Mario Kart World. When using it, players can now go off-track without being slowed down.

Finally, owners of the Additional Tracks Pass can select Number of Races: 96 Races in VS Race.
