Just before its release on August 27, 2026, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 was reviewed by the gaming press. The collection includes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and a few extras.

So far, the compilation has an average score of 83% on OpenCritic and 85% on Metacritic. These are very satisfying results, driven in particular by the undeniable great visuals of the franchise’s fourth installment.

The YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits compared Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots across different platforms. Compared to the PS3 version released in 2008, the game features notable improvements in resolution, shadows, and textures. The frame rate reaches 60 FPS with occasional minor dips on Switch 2. While the PS5 is better in terms of resolution and shadows, the two versions remain very similar visually.

On the PS5, Metal Gear Solid 4 runs at native 4K at 60 FPS, compared to upscaled 4K (from 1440p when docked) at 60 FPS on the Switch 2. In handheld mode, the game runs at 1080p.
