A legendary game designer has just brought his career to a close. Warren Spector is best known for his work on iconic titles such as Deus Ex, the Ultima series, Epic Mickey, and System Shock.

Following the failure of Thick as Thieves and the cancellation of his upcoming game at OtherSide Entertainment, Spector announced his retirement effective immediately. The 70-year-old American director shared a lengthy message on LinkedIn.

While he isn’t necessarily closing the door on a possible return, Warren Spector speaks of a changing industry in which it’s less fun to create. He also wants to make way for the younger generation of developers.
