The physical sales for Resident Evil Requiem surpass 50 % in some countries

These past few weeks, the industry’s largest publishers have taken turns highlighting the dominance of digital sales over physical sales. The ratio even reached 90% to 10% in favor of digital.

However, recent data from Ampere (via journalist Christopher Dring of The Game Business) shows that this disparity varies by country. Resident Evil Requiem is a perfect example of this, despite the fact that digital sales account for the majority of Capcom’s sales.

While only 22% of copies sold in the United States for the ninth installment of the series are physical, that figure rises to 40% in the United Kingdom, 43% in Australia, and 51% in Japan. France takes the lead with a 55% share for the physical edition.

These figures reflect the fact that not all markets are structured the same way and that the disappearance of the physical format could be detrimental in several regions. The transition to an all-digital model is far from a given in 2026 in certain countries.
