Disney is betting big on games, and hasn't forgotten about Kingdom Hearts either
Starting August 14, Disney will be hosting its D23 event. During the event, fans of the brand will be able to discover the latest updates on theme parks, movies, TV shows, and video games.
In fact, the American company highlighted the importance of gaming in one of its promotional videos. During the last fiscal year, the brand’s video games and licensing partnerships generated more than $4 billion in consumer spending.
As a result, Disney will be placing a strong focus on four distinct categories: 20th Century Games (Alien), Lucasfilm Games (Star Wars, Indiana Jones), Marvel Games, and Disney & Pixar Games. The latter category notably includes Kingdom Hearts. The Square Enix franchise has generated over $1 billion since its inception.
Note that a panel dedicated to Kingdom Hearts will be held as part of D23 on August 16.
Finally, Disney plans to invest in video games for consoles, PCs, and mobile devices.
