Physical games account for 38.5% of Nintendo’s software sales

The Japanese manufacturer states that sales of physical games still account for 38.5% of its software sales.

Although this share is gradually declining, it remains significant enough to be important to Nintendo. For this reason, the company has no intention of halting the production of game discs for the time being.

In its latest financial report, the company noted a 2.2-point drop in this ratio, bringing the share of physical sales to 38.5%, compared to 61.5% for digital downloads.

This announcement stands in stark contrast to Sony’s decision to halt disc production for its PS5 games starting in 2028. As for Xbox, it’s worth noting that, although no decision to stop disc production has been mentioned, the company is nevertheless working on a method to digitize its physical titles so they can be made available digitally.
