Dungeon of Dragon Knight Remake arrives on August 10, along with a message from the solo developer

The news broke on the social media platform X. HexGameStudio announced—after several years of inactivity on the platform—that the remake of Dungeon of Dragon Knight is coming to PS5 on August 10.

The original game, released in 2019, was a retro dungeon crawler RPG with modern graphics. Players were guided by a mysterious witch, leading their party through a dungeon riddled with traps and populated by monsters, in search of the evil Dragon Knight.

The remake will feature real-time, first-person combat that’s still grid-based, just like the original. The shop and currency systems have also been removed to simplify the overall gameplay and allow players to focus on exploration rather than the economy.

For those interested in the behind-the-scenes story of the game, the solo developer has posted a video lasting a few minutes in which he discusses his journey.

In it, he says:

« To be honest, before I made this game, I always felt a deep sense of isolation. […] The game didn’t sell explosively on PC platforms. Lack of marketing—I am well aware. But what surprised me the most was that, even so, some people still made videos about the game. No PR budget, no marketing team—yet they spent their time creating content for my game. […] There was a period when I was really down, and it was those videos that kept me going ».
