Square Enix denies using gen-AI for the KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] cover
KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] was officially announced last June, and aims to let fans relive the entire franchise ahead of the highly anticipated release of the fourth entry. However, this compilation was met with some controversy.
Fans had noticed inconsistencies in the cover art for the title. Some internet users even believed that AI had been used to create the image. Square Enix subsequently released another version of the cover art, which further fueled these speculations.
A Square Enix PR sent a statement to GameSpot to clarify the situation. He denied any use of artificial intelligence and cited "human error".
"We’re aware of feedback regarding recent Kingdom Hearts visuals. These assets were created by our development team without the use of generative AI, and the issues resulted from human error.
Quality is extremely important to us, and updated assets have been implemented where appropriate."
KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] will be released on PS5, XBOX Series, and Switch 2 on October 8, 2026
