It's still too early to think about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on Switch 2
Sandfall Interactive does indeed want to port Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Switch 2, but they say It’s still too early.
During a meeting in Yokohama, Guillaume Broche (CEO of Sandfall Interactive), Tom Guillermin (technical director), and Alan Reynard (character designer) provided some insights regarding a port of the game to Nintendo’s latest console.
As of now, there are still too many technical hurdles to overcome, and it takes time for a small team to resolve them.
"We are interested in looking for a way to do it, but it’s too early for us to announce anything at this point. It’s a big technical challenge because we tried to do something beautiful with the game, but of course, the Switch 2 is not as powerful as the PlayStation or the Xbox Series X. So, it’s an important thing for us to consider, especially given the size of our studio."
Since the game was released using Unreal Engine 5, this makes things a bit more difficult. Even though the Switch 2 supports this engine, there are still some features that aren’t yet fully optimized for this console.
"They’re introducing features like Lumen Lite now, which is easier to run than the standard Lumen, but these things take time to roll out, so we’ll have to consider the updates coming from Unreal Engine to determine what to do."
Ultimately, the release of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 could very well be confirmed as soon as the technical hurdles have been overcome, much to the delight of players.
