According to a former producer, EA will drop Dragon Age

After the rather forgettable Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which failed to achieve the expected commercial success, BioWare’s RPG franchise could be shelved by Electronic Arts. The publisher has, in any case, confirmed its intention to refocus on franchises that are financially successful.

In an interview with FRVR, Mark Darrah, the former Dragon Age producer who worked at the studio for 23 years, discussed the saga’s future. According to him, due to EA’s internal project approval process, no new installment will be released anytime soon.

For Darrah, anyone looking to propose a brand-new Dragon Age would be stopped by their superiors.

"I have no concept of who could, would, possibly pitch that at EA. EA owns a frightening number of IPs that are dormant…

What I’ve heard is if you go and decide you’re going to make a [game based on an IP]… the instant you’re about to start, suddenly like three different people who think they control it come out of the woodwork and essentially like rip you apart and chew you up and spit you out.

The other possibility is that someone else within EA decides to pitch a Dragon Age project. In that case, I expect someone at BioWare to go all out to tear it apart. I don’t think that will happen, for various reasons."

BioWare is currently working on the next Mass Effect.
