It’s already been more than three years since Final Fantasy XVI came out for the PS5. Square Enix’s RPG ended up getting ported to PC in September 2024 and then to XBOX Series in June 2025. So, a new installment could be on the way soon.

In fact, Final Fantasy XVII was briefly mentioned during the Final Fantasy XIV 2026 Fan Festival in Berlin. The MMO’s producer, Yoshi-P, and the director of the Final Fantasy VII remakes, Naoki Hamaguchi, were there. On stage, they had a brief exchange about the 17th installment.

"Yoshi-P: I think it’s one of the biggest compliments people were saying in the comments they wish Hamaguchi is making FF17. But you don’t have to answer…!

Hamaguchi: If I answer…

Yoshi-P: No, no, don’t!"

Of course, this could simply be a joke between the two creators or a teaser hinting at Naoki Hamaguchi’s possible involvement with Final Fantasy XVII.
