Ubisoft didn't use the source code from the original to create Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced
It’s sometimes interesting to learn how a game was developed. When it comes to remakes, one might assume the process is simpler, since the devs just need to take an existing game and improve it for modern platforms.
The method Ubisoft used for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced was a bit more complex. During an interview with JorRaptor, Richard Knight, the game’s creative director, revealed that his teams were unable to use the source code from the 2013 title, so the remake is "an entirely new game." Knight added that the gap between the original code and current technologies was far too great.
In the specific case of Black Flag, the source code was used to "analyze the data, understand how certain elements worked, and uncover some secrets". The developers then rebuilt most of the systems to create the best possible version.
