MindsEye : a union claims the all-expenses-paid event used fans to conduct testing

Last week, we learned that Build A Rocket Boy had decided to host a fan event this weekend. Fans were able to test new features for MindsEye. This initiative did not sit well with employees.

So much so that employees protested to denounce the unnecessary expenses associated with this « all-expenses-paid » gathering. Over the past 13 months, the Scottish studio has laid off between 250 and 300 people due to the chaotic launch of MindsEye.

In its statement, the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) said that this initiative amounted to using fans to « perform testing tasks usually carried out by professionals. » Chris Bratt, president of the IWGB, also highlighted « a waste of money ».

« This extravagant testing event is a waste of money and an insult to laid-off workers who see fans being hired to perform tasks that would otherwise have been theirs ».
