Lara Croft almost made her debut in virtual reality! The website MP1st has got a hold on information and images from a Tomb Raider game developed for the Meta Quest 3, PS VR2, and PC.

Developed by Vertigo Amsterdam (a division that has since closed), this project was led by the teams behind Metro Awakening. It was in development from at least November 2024 through January 2026. Codenamed Project U, the game ran on Unreal Engine 5 and involved up to 50 developers. Although the title had received excellent feedback both internally and externally, its cancellation was reportedly caused by a restructuring at Vertigo Games.

However, recently discovered production documents allow us to admire character and environment models, as well as concept art and even a first gameplay sequence.

The story of this VR title was set to take place in the Middle East and featured Lara exploring vast ancient temples and palaces. The adventurer used climbing techniques and a zip line to get around. She even had a variety of equipment at her disposal, such as a bow for environmental puzzles and firearms for combat. A wristband designed to track her health and oxygen levels was also planned.
